After our last lunch in Greve in Chianti, we headed south. Our final destination was the village of Assisie, but in the meantime we made a stop in Cortona.
Assisi, the jewel of Umbria, enchants with its spirituality and timeless architecture. Known as the birthplace of Saint Francis, the town exudes tranquility and sacred history. It became Saint-François-d’Assise, named after a hospital in Quebec City.
The majestic Basilica of St. Francis, adorned with frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue, attracts pilgrims from all over the world. The picturesque alleyways reveal architectural treasures and stunning panoramic views of the Umbrian valley.
Assisi invites you to contemplate and marvel at its Romanesque churches, medieval ramparts and gentle provincial atmosphere, where spirituality, art and natural beauty meet in harmony.
We stayed at Hotel La Fortezza, in the heart of Piazza del comune. We chose the hotel restaurant, La Fortezza Ristaurant, for dinner. A wonderful truffle pasta dish served on the restaurant terrace.
